How To Draw a Fat Cat 🐱: Step-by-Step Tutorial

Hello, I am Ophelia Loom from the ArtOfPencil, and today we’ll draw together! Grab your favorite sketchbook because we are going to create a wonderful, plump friend entirely in pencil across eight clear stages. Let’s pick up our tools and start sketching right now.

Cat Tutorial 🐾

Step 1: Basic Body Shapes

Draw a large, wide horizontal oval for the main torso and a smaller circle overlapping the front for the head. Keep your pencil strokes very light and relaxed.

Step 2: Adding the Ears

Sketch two small, soft triangles resting on top of the head circle. These simple points will become our pet’s alert ears.

Step 3: Paws Placement

Place four short, stretched ovals right at the bottom edge of the large body oval. These foundational shapes form both the front and back paws.

Step 4: The Thick Tail

Attach a thick, rounded curve to the back of the main body oval. A nice, fluffy-looking tail gives our character extra charm and balance.

Step 5: Facial Features

Draw two little round eyes, a tiny nose, and a simple curved mouth line centered on the face. Keep the expression sweet and approachable.

Step 6: Connecting the Outline

Smoothly connect all your basic geometric shapes to create one solid, flowing outline of the entire body. Add a few long whiskers to the cheeks.

Step 7: Erasing Guidelines

Carefully rub out all the overlapping lines and extra sketchy marks from your initial construction. You should be left with a clean, continuous pencil path.

Step 8: Final Details

Darken your final lines slightly to make them pop and add finishing touches like toe lines on the paws. Your wonderful sketch is now fully complete!

Keep Practicing Your Art 🌟

I am so incredibly proud of the fantastic work you did today. Keep your pencil moving daily and try sketching different poses using these exact same basic building blocks!
