Welcome to my creative cozy corner! I am Ophelia Loom from Art of Pencil, and today we will draw a lovely kitten together in just 8 simple stages. Grab your favorite HB pencil, get a blank sheet of paper, and let’s start this fun sketching process right now.
Let’s Master This Cat Lesson
Step 1: Creating Base Shapes
First, we will lightly sketch a large horizontal oval for the body and a smaller circle for the head. Make sure these two basic geometric shapes slightly overlap each other on your paper.

Step 2: Adding Ears and Tail
Now, let’s add two small triangles on top of the head to form the ears. After that, draw a smooth, gently curved line on the opposite side to mark the position of the tail.

Step 3: Mapping the Paws
We will sketch four simple, vertical ovals at the bottom of the large body shape. These clean outlines will serve as the foundation for our kitten’s paws.

Step 4: Connecting the Silhouette
Let’s connect the head and body using two smooth lines to create a natural neck. Gently refine the overall outline to make the transition between the shapes seamless.

Step 5: Face Features Placement
It is time to sketch the main elements of the face inside the head circle. Place two tiny circles for the eyes and a small, inverted triangle for the nose.

Step 6: Refining Face Details
We will add thin, playful lines on the cheeks for the whiskers and draw small curves for the mouth. Do not forget to sketch inner lines inside the ears for realistic depth.

Step 7: Adding Final Details
Let’s divide the paws into small toes using short, neat strokes. You can also add light, simple outlines for stripes on the back and the tail to give character.

Step 8: Cleaning the Outline
To finish our sketch, carefully erase all the initial geometric guidelines and overlapping pencil lines. We are left with a beautiful, clean contour of a little cat.
