How To Draw a Cartoon Cat 😺: Step-by-Step Tutorial

Hi there! I’m Ophelia Loom from Art of Pencil, and I’m so happy to have you here. We’re going to draw a Cartoon Cat together in just 8 simple steps using our favorite pencils. Grab your paper and let’s get started on this cute character right now!

Cartoon Cat Quick Guide

Step 1: Basic Shapes

First, we will lightly sketch a large horizontal oval for the body and a circle sitting just above it for the head. These simple forms create the foundation for our cat.

Step 2: Ears and Neck

Add two small triangles on top of the head for the ears and draw two short lines to connect the head to the body. This gives our cat its classic silhouette.

Step 3: Drawing the Legs

Sketch four long, thin vertical lines extending from the bottom of the oval body. This step sets the height and stance of your character.

Step 4: The Tail

Draw a long, graceful curved line coming off the back of the body to form a swishing tail. Keep the line smooth to show a sense of movement.

Step 5: Facial Features

Inside the circle, draw two large round eyes and a tiny button nose in the center. These big eyes immediately give the cat a friendly personality.

Step 6: Smile and Whiskers

Add a wide, happy smile under the nose and three long whiskers on each side of the face. Your Cartoon Cat is starting to look very lively now!

Step 7: Paws and Details

Add small round shapes at the bottom of the legs for the paws and refine the body lines. This adds weight and stability to the drawing.

Step 8: Final Outline

Go over your favorite pencil marks with a firm hand to create a clean final contour. Erase any construction lines to finish your masterpiece.
