Hi there! I’m Ophelia Loom from Art of Pencil, and I’m so excited to help you find your inner artist. Together, we will draw a lovely feline portrait in pencil using just 8 easy steps. Let’s grab our HB pencils and start sketching right now!
Your Simple Cat Lesson
Step 1: The Head Base
We begin by sketching a large, clean circle in the center of our paper to represent the head. Keep your lines light so they are easy to adjust later.

Step 2: Adding Ears
Draw two simple triangles on top of the circle to create the ears. Make sure they are spaced evenly to keep the face symmetrical.

Step 3: The Guidelines
Lightly draw a horizontal line across the middle of the circle. This guideline helps us place the facial features perfectly.

Step 4: The Tiny Nose
Place a small, upside-down triangle right in the center of the face. This serves as the anchor for the rest of our cat’s expression.

Step 5: Expressive Eyes
Draw two small circles sitting directly on your horizontal guideline. Position them on either side of the nose to give our kitty a friendly look.

Step 6: Mouth and Chin
Sketch two curved lines curving upward from the bottom of the nose to create a smile. Add a tiny U-shape underneath for a subtle chin.

Step 7: Whiskers
Draw three long, straight lines flicking outward from each side of the muzzle. These whiskers instantly bring your cat to life.

Step 8: Final Outlines
Go over your favorite lines with a firmer press to create a bold, clean contour. Erase any remaining construction lines to finish your masterpiece.
